1 — General guidelines
Whether you're hosting or traveling, the basics are the same: be kind, be clear, and trust your gut. If something feels off, you don't need a "good reason" — you can step away.
Golden rule: Safety first. Comfort matters. Respect always.
- Communicate expectations early (timing, rules, tasks, vibe).
- Keep first interactions simple and public when possible.
- Don't share sensitive personal info (IDs, bank details, passwords).
- If you feel pressured, pause and reassess.
2 — Tips for travelers
Before you go
- Ask clear questions: location, check-in times, rules, expectations.
- Share your plan with a friend (where you're staying + dates).
- Keep an emergency contact accessible.
On arrival
- Know where your valuables are (passport, cards, phone).
- Use lockers / safe storage if available.
- If you're unsure, choose public meet-ups first.
Never send money to "secure your spot". If someone asks for payment outside official booking channels, be careful. When in doubt, reach out to us.
3 — Tips for hosts
Set expectations clearly
- Write clear house rules (quiet hours, check-in, shared spaces).
- Be transparent about what you offer (bed, meals, schedule, etc.).
- Make it easy to ask questions — clarity builds trust.
Keep it respectful & professional
- Never request sensitive documents via message (passport photos, etc.).
- Give people space to say "no" without pressure.
- If something doesn't feel right, you can end the exchange safely.
Host tip:A short "welcome message" template saves time and avoids misunderstandings.
4 — Volunteering & exchanges
Volunteering should feel fair, safe, and transparent — for everyone. Clear expectations = happy people = better community.
Agree on the basics
- Schedule: days + hours per week
- Tasks:what you'll do (and what you won't)
- What's included: bed, meals, laundry, tours, etc.
- Duration: start/end dates, trial period if needed
Local laws matter. Volunteer exchanges can be regulated depending on the country. Hosts and travelers are responsible for complying with local rules (work permits, visas, etc.).
5 — Online safety & communication
Spot suspicious behavior
- Requests for money, crypto, gift cards, or "verification fees".
- Pressure to move fast ("urgent", "last chance", "act now").
- Stories that don't add up or avoid basic questions.
Keep your account safe
- Use a strong password and don't reuse it.
- Don't click unknown links in messages.
- If you think your account was compromised, contact us.
6 — Events, parties & consent
Spixes is social — and that's the best part. Let's keep it fun and respectful.
Consent is simple:enthusiastic, clear, and reversible. If someone is uncomfortable, the answer is "stop".
- Look after each other — especially when alcohol is involved.
- No pressure, no "guilt", no pushing boundaries.
- If you see something unsafe, step in or ask staff for help.
