Spixes is a free platform that connects backpackers with hostels worldwide. Backpackers volunteer a few hours a day in exchange for free accommodation and meals, while planning routes, meeting other travelers, and keeping their travel memories in one place.

How much does Spixes cost?

Spixes is free for backpackers to sign up and use. Hostels list volunteer positions for free too, no platform fee, no commission on swap nights. A Premium tier (€9.99/month) unlocks unlimited applications to volunteer positions; the rest of the app stays free.

How many hours do I need to volunteer per day?

Most hostels ask for 3 to 5 hours per day, 5 to 6 days a week. The exact schedule is shown on each listing along with the role, the perks, and the minimum stay.

What kind of work will I do?

Reception, bar, kitchen, events, cleaning, social media, photography, surf school, yoga, repairs, each listing specifies what the hostel needs. You pick what fits your skills and the country you want to travel to.

Do I need a work visa?

Volunteer work-exchange is typically not considered paid employment, but visa rules vary by country. Check the destination country’s rules before you book. Most short-stay volunteers travel on regular tourist visas.

How is Spixes different from Workaway or Worldpackers?

Spixes is built for the hostel community specifically, with a mobile app, live group chats by city and hostel, an events feed, a trip planner that matches you with backpackers on the same route, and an auto-built passport map of every country you’ve been to and every person you’ve met.

Is it free for hostels?

Yes. Hostels list volunteer positions for free. There is no listing fee, no commission, and no platform fee on swap nights.

Where does Spixes operate?

Across countries worldwide and growing. Heaviest density right now in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil.
